Danny Does It Again With A WS-Bred
14 October 2011
Danny O’Brien’s eye for a WS prospect was again to the fore at Cranbourne yesterday when Muchos Respectos added to his winning record. The Flemington trainer’s polish was evident when he produced the son of Pins for a dominant first-up victory over 1200 metres following a six month break.
He purchased the four-year-old out of the Matamata farm’s 2009 Premier Sale line-up at Karaka for $45,000, Muchos Respectos is out of the College Chapel mare Lookatmelads who won five races, including the Listed Wairarapa Breeders’ Stakes, and is from the Gr 1 family of Fully Fledged (Diamond Stakes) and Showmeran (Toorak Handicap).
O’Brien has enjoyed outstanding success with WS-bred or sired horses throughout his successful career. Among the highlights have been the Gr 1 Goodwood Handicap-Salinger Stakes double with Glamour Puss (Tale Of The Cat), the Gr 1 Caulfield Cup victory of Master O’Reilly (O’Reilly), the Gr 2 Makybe Diva Stakes with Vigor (O’Reilly) who also placed in the Caulfield Cup, a Gr 2 Moonee Valley Cup with Gallopin (Pins), the Gr 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes with Splashing Out (O’Reilly) and a Gr 3 Frances Tressady Stakes with Breezy (Pins).
He has also prospered with the stock of Savabeel and produced Placement last season for a Gr 1 placing in the VRC Oaks while Lopov and Savaging have been multiple winners by the son of Zabeel. O’Brien’s current star Shamrocker (O’Reilly) became the first filly to claim the Gr 1 Australian Guineas-AJC Derby double and is now the stable’s Melbourne Cup hope.
