O’Reilly Adds to Black-Type Bow

He might be the outstanding sire of no less than 11 individual Group One winners, but on Saturday Waikato Stud’s Champion International sire O’Reilly was only too happy to show off a different string to his bow – his black-type aptitude as broodmare sire.

Following on from the Gr.1 deeds of Daffodil and The Pooka, O’Reilly notched his 13th stakes winner as damsire, thanks to the game win by Frozone (NZ) (Reset) in the Listed Tattersall’s Racing Club Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm.

Frozone is the first foal out of the O’Reilly mare Ice Maiden – a broodmare who has also been strongly distinguished this term with the Gr.2 winner Icepin (Pins).

Beyond counting 13 individual stakes winners, O’Reilly’s ability as a broodmare sire is strongly enumerated by a 66.8% winners-to-runners ratio.

In his own right, O’Reilly has been best represented this season with the record breaking deeds of daughter Shamrocker – the first filly in Australian history to land the Gr.1 Australian Guineas/Australian Derby double.

O’Reilly’s superb career figures also include a 66.4% winners-to-runners ratio and with 49 individual stakes winners counted, he is on the precipice of becoming just the 11th stallion in NZ history to exceed 50 black-type winners.

O’Reilly stands at Waikato Stud in 2011 for a service fee of NZ$50,000 plus GST, LFG.
