More Porotene power for Patterson

Robert Patterson’s run of success with the Porotene horses may well continue at Woodville on Thursday with two more good chances to add to the record.

The New Plymouth horseman has enjoyed a lengthy association with Taranaki owner-breeders Kemp and Anne Broughton, whose horses all carry a prefix familiar on Central Districts tracks.

They have included the Gr.1 Levin Classic winner Porotene Gem (NZ) (Pins) and Porotene Power (NZ (Pins) who was sold to Hong Kong interests after following up a debut second with a runaway win on his home track in January.

Porotene Tekeela (NZ) (Mr. Nancho) and Porotene Lollipop (NZ) (Pins) will represent Patterson and the Broughtons at Woodville when they take their respective places in the Rating 65 Agriseeds Handicap and the Masurel Direct Wools/Naylor Lawrence and Associates Dash.

The Pins three-year-old Porotene Lollipop will be making her debut at Woodville after a trial win at Otaki earlier this month.

“She’s a really promising filly and has got the breeding on her side,” Patterson said. “Her trial was nice and we had thought about Brisbane with her, but we’ve always been a bit behind the eight ball.”
