Myers adds to tally with Likeapins

Kevin Myers’ stable racked up an impressive 17 winners on the recent West Coast circuit and the Wanganui trainer continued his roll at Trentham on Anniversary Day.

The durable mare Likeapins dented a reputation or two when she sustained a strong finishing run to claim the New World Wellington City Wellington Cup Prelude.

Both the hot favourite Sampson and the southern mare Delacroix missed the placings with performances that cast serious doubt on their Gr.2 Platinum Homes Wellington Cup chances.

Sampson got his own way in front, but he was a spent force on straightening while Delacroix was unable to capitalise on a sweet run in the trail and also weakened out of contention.

Likeapins was ridden off the pace by Johnathon Parkes and finished on too well for Antonio and Volkswood.

“When I left Kevin said she was pretty right again and it was a good performance,” stable representative Ken Harrison said.

“She’s a tidy mare and good on the owners, they’ve been patient with her.”
Likeapins has now won 10 races in an interrupted career after she was side-lined two years ago by a bleeding attack.

Also stakes placed in the Listed Eater Cup at Riccarton, the seven-year-old daughter of Pins has now won consecutive races having triumphed in the Stratford Cup at the end of last month. – NZ Racing Desk.
