Tomorrowland seals Group One start

Speedster Tomorrowland completed a significant double for WS at Te Rapa today when he turned in an electric display to claim the Listed Shaw’s Wires Ropes Sprint. The home-bred son of former resident sire Fast ‘N’ Famous completed a hat-trick of wins with his commanding victory.

Following on from the win of Savabeel’s son Surpass in the Gr 3 Waikato Gold Cup, Tomorrowland is now on target for a Group One start. “This horse will go straight into the Telegraph now,” trainer Danica Guy said. “I wanted to give him one race over 1400 metres as the Telegraph is a hard 1200.”

An $8000 Karaka purchase out of the farm’s 2012 Select Sale draft, the four-year-old is out of the Pins mare Needled. He is a half-brother to the multiple winner Needled (O’Reilly) who also finished runner-up in the 2013 edition of Saturday’s race.

Tomorrowland was ridden to the fifth win of his seven start career by Michael Coleman.

“He travelled sweetly just off the leader and dropped the bit,” he said. “It was a bit of a scare when he lugged back to the rail, but he’s a very promising horse.”

WS will offer a O’Reilly half brother (Lot 89) to Tomorrowland during the Premier Sale at Karaka next year.
