Top Family Adds To Honours Board

One of WS’s most successful families added to its tally in Victoria yesterday when the Pins four-year-old Tailorman was successful at Geelong. The four-year-old won his second race when he struck for the second time in his career with a 1300 metre victory in Darren Gauci’s hands.

The gelding was originally purchased by the Hong Kong Jockey Club out of the Matamata farm’s Premier Sale team to Karaka in 2009 for $160,000. He is a brother to the Australian stakes winner Legsman and the Group performed Prickle, who is the dam of the 2012 Gr.1 Queensland Derny winner, Brambles (Savabeel).

Snobbish is a daughter of the black type winner Lady Aloof who produced the outstanding multiple Group 1 winner Slight Chance. Her sons Salgado and Dane Shadow have also been Group winner and a more recent member of the family is the well-perfofmed Sharp Princess (Pins).

Oilman’s stud stake could change course of NZ breeding

Eighteen months ago, Texas oilman Nelson Bunker Hunt walked through the lush Waikato pasture of Matamata’s Balcarres Stud and announced he wanted some just like it for his own.

Today he has-360 acres about a mile down the road which has been transformed from a dairy farm to one of New Zealand’s leading horse and cattle breeding establishments.
