Diademe pleases at Rotorua trials

Quality mare Diademe is progressing well toward a return to racing after a lengthy break.

The daughter of Savabeel had a quiet outing at the Rotorua trials on Tuesday and finished a pleasing third in her open 1000 metre heat.

“We’re really happy with her coming off a break following her injury,” said Andrew Forsman, who prepares the Group One performer with Murray Baker.

“Opie (Bosson) didn’t knock her around and it’s pleasing to see her still want to go out there and perform. She’ll probably have another trial and maybe she’ll be at the races in three or four weeks.”

Diademe has wins in the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes and the Gr.3 Westbury Classic to her credit and has twice placed at the elite level in the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes and the NRM Sprint.

Unfortunately, she suffered a hoof injury soon after her latest Group One placing at Te Rapa in February behind Viadana and Sacred Star.

Diademe is an older sister to the Diamond Lodge-presented colt who topped last week’s Ready to Run Sale at Karaka where he was knocked down to Warwick Farm trainer Bruce Heys for $460,000.

Meanwhile, her trainers continued their rich run of form at Te Rapa last Sunday with a winning treble from the fillies Charmont and Saavoya and the progressive Gustavo.

The lightly-tried pair of Charmont and Saavoya fast tracked their entry into upcoming black type events with effortless maiden victories.

“We’ll be looking at races like the Eulogy Stakes and the Eight Carat for them,” Forsman said.

Savabeel gelding Gustavo bounced back from a previous unplaced effort to post the third win of his six start career.

“We don’t know what happened to him at Tauranga, he never looked comfortable,” Forsman said. – NZ Racing Desk.

Waikato Stud farewells Posy

Bluehen mare Posy, dam of Group 1 winner Atishu, Group winner Mazzolino and Flemington winner Dream All Day, has been laid to rest, aged 17. She retired to Waikato Stud’s broodmare band in 2014 and left a lasting legacy.

WS-breds shine at the Racing Victoria Off The Track Carnival

Last weekend saw many retired racehorses and their careers compete in various disciplines, and one star who shone brightly was Eden Pearson’s 10-year-old ott horse, Tango. Once racing as Does It (Pins ex Just Be Cos), Tango raced 45 times, winning on five occasions and accumulating prizemoney of $275,550 before retiring in June 2024.
