Super savabeel reigns supreme

Savabeel enjoyed another superb afternoon on both sides of the Tasman on Saturday. The corks were popping after the Gr 1 Champagne Stakes success of his daughter Pasadena Girl at Randwick following No Tricks’ stakes victory at Riccarton.
Pasadena Girl has now won three of her four starts and trainer Peter Moody admitted the filly’s progress had exceeded expectations. “She’s a little gem,” he said. “When I purchased her I thought we would be going to the races this time next year.
“She’s surprised us. She has an unbelievable attitude towards racing and her work, for a little filly she’s buttered up for the fourth time and probably presented bigger and stronger on each occasion even though she’s only a little pony.”
No Tricks, meanwhile, had finished runner-up in the Listed Airfreight Stakes seven days ago and she had no trouble going one better in her first attempt at 2000 metres in the Listed Warstep Stakes. Trainer Jason Bridgman has long held the filly in high regard and was thrilled for her to show her true worth.
The three-year-old had suffered a stop-start preparation and Bridgman was delighted to see her in winning form. “She had a rotten spring when the Levin Classic was put off and then she went back for the Eulogy Stakes and she was late scratched,” he said. No Tricks now has two wins and seven placings from her nine appearances.
