Black Savvath Rocks At Foxton

Black Savvath showed staying was his game today when he added his name to Savabeel’s ever-growing list of winners. The lightly-tried WS-bred three-year-old was making just his second appearance over a middle distance when he proved superior to his opposition over 2000 metres.

While it was far from the Matamata stallion’s most telling winning blow of the season, it was nevertheless a significant victory for the Chitticks as Black Savvath hails from one of their most productive families. A $27,500 weanling buy at Karaka, he is out of the winning Centaine mare Slightly Aloof who is a sister to the former crack galloper and six-time Gr 1 winner Slight Chance (VRC Oaks, Queensland Oaks, Storm Queen Stakes, Flight Stakes, QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Castlemaine Stakes). She also did a fine job at stud as the dam of the Gr 3 Sandown Stakes winner Salgado and the Gr 3 Ming Dynasty Quality winner Dane Shadow whose daughter Hurtle Myrtle who claimed her second Gr 2 title at Eagle Farm on Saturday when successful in the Dane Ripper Handicap.

Black Savvath is trained Marton by Fraser Auret who has also enjoyed good fortune with this WS family as the black gelding is a half-brother to the dam of his well-performed stablemate Sharp Princess. The Pins mare is the black-type winner of the South Island Breeders’ Stakes and has been Gr 1 placed in the Zabeel Classic and Darci Brahma International Stakes.

Meanwhile, Diana claimed her fourth career win from just 12 appearances at Wanganui on Saturday to add to the record of another well-established WS bloodline over the Queen’s Birthday weekend. The Pins mare was a $140,000 purchase from the stud’s 2008 Premier Sale line-up at Karaka and is out of the Zabeel mare Astrology who won six times and is also the dam of Rewarding Star (O’Reilly) who has been a multiple winner. The feature names in this pedigree are the Gr 1 winners Legs (NZ Oaks, Kelt Capital Stakes) and Guyno (WATC Derby).
