Torgerson capable of competing with best

Australia’s leading trainer Chris Waller believes Pins 3YO Torgersen is capable of competing against the best of his age group next year following a gritty win at Royal Randwick.

A fortnight after surging from the tail of the field to score a last-stride win at Rosehill Gardens, the three-year-old Pins colt once again showed great tenacity at the end of the 1400m race to gun down Group 2 winner Tarquin.

“It’s easy to talk them up on race day, but he’s got a bright future,” Waller said.

“He’s going to be one of the good milers of years to come.

“We are just trying to build his confidence and get him to improve his race craft. He is far from the finished product but is showing nice promise.”

It is expected Torgersen will enjoy a light break before being aimed towards either the Australian Guineas at Flemington or the Randwick Guineas, with both Group 1s staged on March 5.

Mulcaster Bloodstock purchased Torgersen for $170,000 from Waikato Stud’s draft at the Karaka Premier Yearling Sale in New Zealand.

Torgersen’s dam Oh So Glam is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winning mare Glamour Puss and Doncaster Mile winner Vision And Power.

Mr Bombasa gives Banquo another winner

Three-year-old colt Mr Bombasa provided another winner this season for Banquo, who is having a watershed season with a Group 3 winner and performer also turning heads.

Ardrossan’s son Cannon Hill wins en route to Gr.3 Easter Handicap
