Placement Resumes In Fine Fashion

Quality galloper Placement shed her title of Australia’s best maiden performer when she successfully returned from a spell yesterday. The daughter of Savabeel made her first appearance as a four-year-old on the synthetic track at Geelong and won over 1400 metres on her return from a four month break.

The performance augurs well for the spring for the WS-bred and sold mare who proved competitive against the best of her age group last season. She finished runner-up in both the Gr 2 Wakeful Stakes and the Listed Sportingbet Stakes and was a strong third in the Gr 1 VRC Oaks.

Placement’s stake earnings now stand at $A217,000 after she was purchased by trainer Danny O’Brien for $A65,000 at the Sydney Easter Sale in 2009. She is out of the winning O’Reilly mare Lucida who is a daughter of the Gr 3 Gold Trail Stakes winner and dual Gr 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas and Levin Classic placegetter Starcent, in turn the dam of Ambitious who was also runner-up in the NZ 1000 Guineas.
