Pins Blueblood Looking A Force To Be Reckoned With

Waikato Stud’s Pins blueblood Smart Giant announced himself as a force to be reckoned in Hong Kong last night.

In the same manner which saw him seal the Hong Kong Trainers’ Premiership for John Moore last term, the 4YO Pins gelding lifted against Class 2 company in his season resume, powering home for an eye-catching win in the Cotton Tree Hcp (1400m).

Making the win all the more remarkable was that with just over a furlong to go, Smart Giant was still stuck in traffic. Angled clear late, he responded with a terrific burst of acceleration, leaping out of the ground for a 1.3 length win over O’Reilly counterpart Flying Supreme.

Smart Giant has now won his last three in a row and has fashioned an impressive overall record of four wins and three placings from eight appearances.

Smart Giant’s inherited talent is derived from Pins and the O’Reilly mare Spring, thus making him a half-brother to the triple G1 winner Daffodil (AJC Oaks, NZ 1000 Guineas, Hawke’s Bay Challenge Stakes), who recently produced a Pins filly.

The exciting blackbooker was originally purchased for $A160,000 out of WS’s 2009 Sydney Easter draft.
