Iggi Pop rocks home

A daring ride secured Savabeel another stakes success when Iggi Pop won the Listed Queensland Cup at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Jockey Jim Byrne allowed the five-year-old to stride to the lead 1200 metres from home and they were close to 10 lengths clear turning for home.

The gelding held a strong gallop to the wire to win by a wide margin and record the fifth win of his 22-start career. A recent addition to John Sargent’s Randwick stable, he was formerly prepared by John O’Shea.

Iggi Pop is a half-brother to WS’s prolific winner I Do (No Excuse Needed) with their dam the O’Reilly mare Freequence. It is also a family that has made its mark across the Tasman with the dual Gr.1 Stradbroke Handicap winner Black Piranha and the Gr.1 Queensland Derby winner Court Ruler in its ranks.
