Fashionably-bred filly breaks through

True to her pedigree, the elegantly-bred Mary Quant made a successful middle distance debut on her home track this afternoon. Bred on a classic WS and sporting their colours, the daughter of the late, great O’Reilly and a dual Group One-winning Pins mare opened her account at Matamata over 2000 metres.

Mary Quant had made an encouraging start to her career from Wexford Stables with four placings from her previous six outings. However, it was a step up in distance that allowed her to break through over 2000 metres.

The three-year-old is out of the Gr 1 New Zealand Oaks winner Legs, who also claimed the Kelt Capital Stakes, and history could yet repeat itself. Mary Quant is now listed as a $26 chance for next month’s Trentham classic.
