Queen rules at Bendigo
Savabeel three-year-old Queen Leonora has added her name to the family roll of honour in fine style.
She continued her steady improvement yesterday with her maiden success over 1600m at Bendigo.
The Danny O’Brien-trained filly had placed in two of her three starts before triumphing in the hands of James Winks.
Queen Leonora was bred by Waikato Stud and farm principal Mark Chittick has remained in the ownership.
She is out of the O’Reilly mare Lego, who is a sister to the stakes winner Wolfwhistle and a three-quarter sister to the Gr.1 WATC Derby winner Guyno.
Queen Leonora is a grand-daughter of the stud’s dual Gr.1 Kelt Capital Stakes and New Zealand Oaks winner Legs.
It is also the family of the multiple Group One winner Xtravagant and the black type winners Arletty and Firetaine.
Jess Greenfield awarded 2026 Mary-Lynne Ryan Young Achiever Award
On Saturday night, Jess Greenfield was awarded the loveracing.nz Mary-Lynne Ryan Young Achiever Award at the Property Brokers National Breeding Awards at Karapiro. When asked by Steve Davis what the future looked like for Jess, Greenfield humbly replied: “Just keep working away at Waikato Stud and see where we end up.”

Ocean Park Trans-Tasman Double
With Andrew Forsman’s 3yo Ocean Park filly Pine Leaf breaking her maiden by a widening four and a quarter-lengths in the last at Cambridge on Wednesday, celebrations continued as just ten minutes later it was the Chirs Waller trained Velaris who saluted at Canterbury with fellow Ocean Park runner I Park finishing a gallant third.
