Savabeel filly rules at Hastings
Savabeel’s regally-bred daughter Queen Of Diamonds has staked her claim for the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks in style.
She left no doubt she is the filly to beat in the classic with a victory this afternoon in the Gr.2 Lowland Stakes at Hastings.
The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained three-year-old turned in a commanding performance to win with ease.
Rider Matt Cameron did everything asked of him and Queen Of Diamonds responded in sparkling style.
“It was a great ride and he took control of the race,” Forsman said.
“The key was she didn’t have the blinkers on and relaxed with cover down the back straight.”
Queen Of Diamonds idled up to challenge 200 metres from home and went clear to put the issue beyond doubt.
A $640,000 Karaka buy for the China Horse Club, she is a daughter of Love Diamonds and the legendary Eight Carat family.
