Pins star of the show
Gros Piton led off a double for the late Pins in Singapore last night when he opened his winning account.
The China Horse Club-owned four-year-old’s success was no surprise as he had placed in two of his previous three starts.
Trained by Jamie Peters, the gelding was a comfortable winner over 1200 metres in the hands of Vlad Duric.
Gros Piton is out of the Cape Cross mare Fizz, a sister to the multiple Group One winners Gurner’s Lane and Sovereign Red.
It’s also the family of the Gr.1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner Foxwood.
Pins’ son Soldado made it a two-timer when he was victorious over 100 metres in the following event.
A $35,000 Karaka graduate, the six-year-old has now won four times for trainer Shane Baertschiger.
Soldado is a half-brother to the Gr.2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes winner Captain Fantastic.
Completing a good night at Kranji for Waikato Stud was home-bred Safeer, who won for the fifth time for trainer Michael Clements.
He was originally bought out of the farm’s Karaka draft for $185,000 and is the first foal of the O’Reilly mare Ahna.
She hails from the legendary family of the Blue Hen mare Eight Carat.
