Pedigree Picks with Mike Rennie – 2 August, 2019

Mike Rennie

Seaway caps off his evergreen consistency in taking out the Listed Winter Stakes at Rosehill.

A barrage of wide draws only delayed the inevitable with Chris Waller fine-tuning the four-year gelding to win the Listed affair on his own terms (despite the wide draw). His race record now reads 15 starts for six wins (all metro) and four placings. He has amassed $380,000AUD and there is no doubt more in store.

By Ocean Park, he is out of the One Cool Cat (Storm Cat) mare Miss Purrfection. Albeit from small numbers the Thorn Park/Storm Cat nick reads well at 64% winners and 7% stakes winners to runners. Most notably is the Group Two winner Amarula who’s by Thorn Park out of a Black Minnaloushe mare and interestingly has Star Kingdom via his grandam, as does Seaway.

Star Kingdom has a potent affinity with Thorn Park; Norzita, Ryan Mark, Sacred Park, Te Akau Rose and Jimmy Choux (who had four lines present close up) are examples. Jimmy Choux also has Vain close up, like Veyron and also Seaway (in the 4th generation via his tail line). All of a sudden, we have the Thorn Park sireline over the Storm Cat line with Star Kingdom and Vain close up; it seems an obviously potent mix?
