Pins Strikes in Guineas Again
Improving filly Gold Bracelet upstaged a high-class field in today’s Gr.2 Wellington Guineas at Trentham.
She credited the late Pins with consecutive wins in the race following Emily Margaret’s success 12 months ago.
Rider Lisa Allpress found a perfect position just behind a strong pace, then moved Gold Bracelet off the rail coming up to the home turn.
The Johno Benner and Hollie Wynyard-trained Gold Bracelet dashed hit the front 150 metres from home and stayed on strongly for an upset win.
“The pace was on early and she was kicking along nicely three back on the fence,” Allpress said.
“She got a lovely run through, the gaps appeared and she just kept coming. She won really well.”
Benner said they will take their time before plotting their next move with Gold Bracelet.
“We’ll go home and see how she pulls up before making any plans on what we do from here.
“There are a couple of lovely fillies’ races coming up at Riccarton that we think she’d be very competitive in, the NZB Insurance Stakes and the Warstep Stakes.”
The 85th stakes winner for Pins, Gold Bracelet is a daughter of the Golan mare Miss Bling, a sister to the Gr.1 Hong Kong Mile winner Beauty Flash.
Miss Bling is in foal to Waikato Stud’s Tivaci.
