Marsh sold on Savabeel filly

Leading trainer Stephen Marsh has tipped a bright future for the Waikato Stud-bred and sold filly Tabata.

The lightly-tried Savabeel three-year-old came back triumphantly from a lengthy spell to break her maiden at Te Rapa this afternoon over 1200 metres, a distance well short of her best.

“She has always showed us plenty of ability and we ran her in a stakes race last time in, but that didn’t come off so we gave her a good spell,” Marsh said. “It’s a very satisfying win.

“She’s a very relaxed filly and looking for more ground. She’s a staying type by Savabeel and a horse with a very bright future.”

A $100,000 Karaka graduate, Tabata is a daughter of the winning Pins mare Splitsecond, who boasts a deep pedigree.

It is the family of the G1 Arrowfield Stud Stakes winner Sixty Seconds and her sister Spottswoode, who won the G3 Manawatu Classic.

Further back is the presence of the dual Group 1 winner Xtravagant, the G1 Kelt Capital Stakes winner Legs and Arletty, twice successful at Group 2 level.
