Another WS filly on target for Karaka Million 3YO Classic

Amarelinha will attempt to emulate the deeds of stablemate Probabeel and claim top honours in the Karaka Millions 3YO Classic.

Both fillies have plenty in common as they are Waikato Stud-born, bred and sold and by the Matamata farm’s champion stallion Savabeel with Amarelinha in also the right form after an impressive display to win today’s G2 Eight Carat Classic.

“When David (Ellis) bought this filly we said she’s one that looks like Probabeel,” Richards said. “She’s a big filly by the right stallion with a very good pedigree and has the right brand.”

Amarelinha was purchased by David Ellis at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for NZ$300,000 and is out of the unraced O’Reilly mare Hopscotch.

She is a half-sister to the four-time Group 1 winner Metal Bender and the family of the Group 1 winner and sire Keeper.

Amarelinha has always been held in high regard and was considered a G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas prospect earlier in her career before minor issues prevented her from getting to Riccarton.

“A few little things went wrong with her feet and that may turn out to be blessing, she’s just kept getting better,” Richards said.

Amarelinha settled well back before rider Opie Bosson sent her around the field near the turn and she quickly took control of the race in the straight and was never in any danger.

“At the 600 I felt her come up underneath me and when I let her go she sprinted so quickly. She is an exciting horse,” Bosson said.
