Shoshone returns to top form

Shoshone posted both an overdue and deserved victory when she delivered a commanding front-running performance this afternoon over 1400 metres at Matamata.

The Waikato Stud-bred and sold daughter of Sacred Falls last won 12 months ago, but she placed multiple times and has now been successful in six of her 16 starts for trainers Ken and Bev Kelso.

Shoshone was partnered today by apprentice Erin Leighton and the mare was quickly into stride and she travelled comfortably to the turn.

She was clear with 300 metres to run and had no trouble holding her rivals at bay to win by 

Shoshone was purchased at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $150,000 with Ken Kelso signing the ticket with Waterford Bloodstock.

She is a daughter of the Zabeel mare Dee I Why, who is out of the Listed Champagne S. winner Playful Fingers and she is a half-sister to the South African Group 3 winner Hancock Park. It is also the family of the G1 Orr S. winner Manuel.
