Star staying performance from Savabeel’s son

Starrybeel produced a stout performance to win at Te Aroha on Saturday afternoon and an effort that indicated he can make his mark in strong staying company this preparation.

The son of Savabeel will be given opportunities to showcase his stamina on the major stages with nominations for both the G1 Auckland Cup and the G3 Wellington Cup.

The Waikato Stud graduate is prepared by Stephen Marsh, whose conditioning skills were to the fore today when Starrybeel improved on a first-up fifth over 1600 metres to score over 2200 metres and his sixth career victory.

He travelled easily in fourth spot on the fence and rider Michael McNab pushed him through along the rail in the straight with a well-timed finish.

Starrybeel was a $180,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale purchase for Albert Bosma’s Go Racing syndication company.

He is a son of the unraced O’Reilly mare Starry, who is a half-sister to the Listed Widden S. winner Delta Girl with the stand-out performer on the pedigree page the G1 Livamol Classic winner Savy Yong Blonk.

Other family members include the Group 3 winner and Group 1 placegetters Strike The Stars and Another Dollar.
