Early winning double for Tivaci

Outfit had her game face on at Te Rapa this afternoon with a maiden victory that has added momentum toward loftier autumn goals and also led off a winning double across both domestic venues for resident Waikato Stud stallion Tivaci.

Bred by the Matamata farm and raced by all the staff, the well-related Outfit successfully stepped up to 1600 metres off the back of two placings from three previous appearances from Jamie Richards’ stable.

“Every staff member has a piece of her (Outfit),” said Mark Chittick. “It’s a great reward after a massive season.”

Meanwhile at Awapuni, the covers came off Tivaci’s daughter Kana and the 2-year-old had no trouble justifying her favouritism with success over 1100 metres.

Outfit settled toward the rear on the fence today before rider Opie Bosson angled the filly off the rail before the turn and she powered to the front 150 metres off the post to win with authority.

She holds Group 1 nominations for both the New Zealand Oaks and the Levin Classic and is bred to make her mark in top company as she is a daughter of the two-time top-flight winner Costume, who foaled a Tivaci colt this year and has been served by Super Seth.

Kana was a star trial performer with three wins from as many appearances and she delivered an impressive debut victory for trainer Peter Didham.

“She is more of a 3-year-old type, she’s quite tall and sexy-looking, but she needed a run,” he said.

She travelled boldly under rider Robert Hannam in fourth spot and rounded off strongly in the closing 250 metres to score a convincing victory.

A $65,000 Karaka graduate, Kana is out of the O’Reilly mare Tick Tock who hails from a well-performed Waikato Stud family that features the Group 1 winners Legs, Guyno and Sixty Seconds.
