A winning double for stud graduates at Kranji

Ocean Park

Waikato Stud graduates produced a double strike in Singapore on Saturday evening with Red Ocean and Sabah Star both building on their tidy records at Kranji.

Red Ocean returned from a two-month break to justify his warm favouritism with a runaway victory over 1600 metres for trainer Shane Baertschiger and jockey Matthew Kellady.

Sold at Karaka for $190,000, the son of Ocean Park has now won four of his nine starts and looks more than capable of making his mark in stronger company.

He is a son of the Danasinga mare Bird, whose two successes during a light career included victory in the Listed Warstep S. and was runner-up in the Listed Inglewood S.

Bird has been a fine producer as she is also the dam of the Listed Singapore Jumbo Jet Trophy winner Preditor and the aptly named Listed Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders S. winner Flamingo.

The pedigree further features the G3 South Island Thoroughbred Breeders winner Out Of The Park and is also the pedigree of the Waikato Stud-bred and sold two-time Group 1 winner Mo’unga and the G1 Auckland Cup winner Chenille.

A $24,000 Karaka weanling buy from Waikato Stud’s draft who subsequently made $85,000 as a yearling, Sabah Star was freshened after finishing runner-up in November and returned to score this evening over 1400 metres in the hands of Oscar Chavez for trainer David Kok.

The son of Pins, who has no won four races, is out of the Fast ‘N’ Famous mare Onesey who is a half-sister to the stakes winner Shandream.
