Tofane makes sensational return

Tofane opened her final campaign in emphatic fashion with a front-running victory in the G1 CF Orr S. at Caulfield on Saturday afternoon.

It was the 6-year-old’s fourth win at the highest level to make her the best-performed representative to date of Waikato Stud stallion Ocean Park.

Trained by Michael Moroney, Tofane was quickly into stride and rider Mark Zahra had no hesitation in taking on the role of pacemaker.

The mare revelled in her work at the head of affairs and, after kicking clear at the top of the straight, stayed on strongly to score with ease in her first appearance for four months.

“She’s always been at her best after Christmas. She looked on her game today and it was a really good ride by Mark,” Moroney said.

“She’s done a great job and will probably run in the G1 Futurity S. and then we’ll decide whether we stay here or go to Sydney and she’ll probably go to the Magic Million Sale later on,” Moroney said.

Tofane has now won eight races with past successes on her CV in the G1 All Aged S., G1 Stradbroke H. and the G1 Tatt’s Tiara and she has also placed at the elite level in the Toorak H., Memsie S. and The Galaxy.
