Well-bred Ideal lives up to name

Savabeel

Waikato Stud was a dominant force at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Book 1 Sale Karaka and the Matamata operation also celebrated racetrack success this afternoon.

The nursery and its co-breeder, part-owner and trainer Allan Sharrock had their patience rewarded at Otaki with the Savabeel mare Ideal, who scored a hollow victory over 1400 metres.

Rider Sarah Macnab gave the 4-year-old a good trip one off the fence in fifth spot before looming wide on the turn and they cruised clear in the last 150 metres to score by

Ideal had finished runner-up on the course in January in her only other appearance and is a daughter of the G1 Makfi Challenge S. winner I Do.

She is a half-sister by No Excuse Needed to the Listed Queensland Cup winner Iggi Pop and the family of the G1 Queensland Derby winner Court Ruler.

I Do has also produced an unraced Savabeel 3-year-old named Do I, a juvenile Savabeel filly and last year delivered a filly by Super Seth before she returned to the Dundeel stallion.
