Savvy back in business

Savabeel

Oso Savvy bounced back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over 1800 metres on his home track at New Plymouth.

The son of Savabeel had produced mixed performances since he was twice successful during the New Zealand Cup carnival, but he made no mistake on Saturday afternoon for trainer and part-owner John Wheeler.

Oso Savvy settled midfield and off the fence under apprentice Lemmy Douglas before improving wide near the turn and the six-year-old ploughed through the testing conditions to win for the fifth time.

He was originally purchased for A$170,000 by Enigma Farm at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from Maluka Thoroughbreds’ draft, who offered him on behalf of Waikato Stud.

Stephen Marsh then secured him for $240,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale from Riversley Park and was a dual winner for the Cambridge trainer before relocating to Wheeler’s New Plymouth stable.

Oso Savvy is a son of the late Pins mare Heyday, who is from the family of the Group 1 winners Legs, Guyno and Sixty Seconds.
