Ocean Park mare does sire proud
Irrigate was the omen bet on Saturday’s Te Rapa card and she duly obliged with a strong staying performance to score over 2400 metres.
The daughter of Ocean Park was bred by Waikato Stud and claimed the staying event named in honour of the farm’s multiple Group 1 winner and producer.
Trained by Kylie Little, Irrigate is a half-sister to the multiple Australian winner and black-type performer Johnny Vinko.
Their dam is the now retired O’Reilly mare Brazen who is a half-sister to the G3 Summer Cup winner Zanetta and the family of Nandowra, who was successful multiple times at stakes level in Singapore.
Irrigate settled off the pace in the testing conditions at Te Rapa before improving near the
turn for rider Tegan Newman and rounded off strongly in the run home for a hollow victory.
