Bohemian Lily in QLD Oaks Contention
Kiwi filly Bohemian Lily (NZ) (O’Reilly) confirmed her rating as a genuine chance for the Group One Queensland Oaks with her win at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Bohemian Lily ($4) was having her second start for top Sydney trainer Gai Waterhouse when she outstayed Col ‘n’ Lil ($12) by a neck in the Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m).
The filly is raced by New Zealand businessman Kevin Hickman who also owns the outstanding mare Silent Achiever.
Waterhouse said Hickman had sent the filly to Australia with the Oaks as a priority race.
“She is a clean-winded filly and I wasn’t worried about her at the 1800 metres second-up,” Waterhouse said.
Bracelet winners have usually gone on to race well in the Oaks but Tinto last year is the only filly to complete the double.
