Brave Thy Rewarded With Oaks Placing

Lightly-tried filly Thy gained another invaluable Gr 1 credit when she finished a meritorious third in the Australasian Oaks at Randwick on Saturday. The WS-bred and owned three-year-old, fourth in the Vinery Stakes at her previous start, has yet to run out of the money in her seven lifetime appearances.

Trained by Peter Moody, she was partnered by stable jockey Luke Nolen who predicted bright future for the daughter of O’Reilly. “Excellent run. We made it a staying test trying to take the dash out of the winner,” he said. “She kept giving and was very brave. It’s all in front of her.”

A $600,000 Karaka yearling, Thy is out of the Gr 2 Travis Stakes winner Star Affair and is a half-sister to the Gr 3 Summer Cup winner Solid Billing and the multiple South African winner Galileo’s Galaxy, who has twice been Gr 1 placed. It is also the family of the Dennis brothers’ dual Gr 1 winner The Jewel (NZ 1000 Guineas, Waikato International Stakes).
