Change Brings Success For Savarhys

WS has enjoyed a close association with Wanganui identity Chris Turner over the years and that partnership tasted further success at Awapuni yesterday. They are the co-breeders of Savarhys who showed the benefit of a changed training regime to claim the Rating 65 metric mile.

The four-year-old had won one of his previous 14 starts before the stable decided on a different approach to get the best out of the gelding. “He’s got a lot of ability and we’ve been jumping him lately to mix things up and it’s worked out well,” said Hayden Allen, foreman to Matamata trainer John Sargent.

A son of Savabeel, Savarhys is out of the Pins mare Rhysess, who won five races including the Gr 3 Cuddle Stakes for Turner. He also prepared her mother Sahrhys and her four raceday successes featured the Gr 3 Lowland Stakes. Savarhys was purchased by Beamish Bloodstock from WS’s Premier Sale draft for $40,000 in 2010.
