Debut winner to race on in NZ
11 November 2014
Ambitious Unicorn will continue his three-year-old career in New Zealand following his impressive debut success at Awapuni on Tuesday
.
The gelding is trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman for bloodstock agent Bruce Perry and the Hong Kong-based Anderson Lam, who races the star galloper Ambitious Dragon with his father Johnson.
“Murray and Andrew have got a high opinion of this horse and the plan at this stage is to race him here through his three-year-old season,” Perry said.
“He’s a mile type of horse and hopefully he might be good enough to go to Australia later.”
Perry originally sourced the multiple Group One winner and dual Hong Kong Horse of the Year Ambitious Dragon for the Lams.
“We were keen to get another by Pins and went to the sale and found this one,” he said.
Ambitious Unicorn was a $90,000 purchase from Waikato Stud’s Select Sale line-up at Karaka last year. He is out of a grand-daughter of the Gr.1 Lion Brown Sprint winner Mrs Selleck.
