Early Derby Raps Heaped on Savarhys

Early Derby raps are being heaped on the exciting Savabeel gelding Savarhys following his barn storming performance at Taupo today.

After blowing the start, Savarhys had it all to do turning for home, but responded in impressive fashion, rocketing home to deny fellow Savabeel Riccioli in the last few bounds of the Dunstan All 4 Feet Maiden 1300m.

“He’s very, very good,” Savarhys trainer John Sargent would say afterwards of the 3/4 length winner.

Definitely one for the blackbook, it was the smart 3YO’s first raceday attempt, providing much to look forward to for owners A Baldock, J M Bennett, Ms K Brown, Mrs A J Clarke, Mrs L Dench, Mrs M E Hales, R Healy, N B Kelly, Miss S E Lindsay, A M Little, D & Mrs G Macdonald, Mrs S McFadden, R J Menzies, S P Prendergast, Mrs A L Price, O Saxton, Ms G J Sprott, G Wigg & N A Wilson.

Bred by Chris Turner and Waikato Stud, Savarhys is out of the Gr.3 winning Pins mare Rhysess.

Savarhys was purchased by Paul Beamish from Waikato Stud’s 2010 Premier Yearling Sale consignment for $40,000.
