Fromelles added considerable value to her future worth as a broodmare when she raced away with Saturday’s Gr 3 Rotorua Cup. The five-year-old daughter of WS stallion Savabeel made short work of her rivals in the straight with a potent finishing run to with plenty of authority under leading rider Lisa Allpress.
“It was a good run last time in the Hawke’s Bay Cup and before that she was desperately unlucky in the weight-for-age for fillies and mares at Awapuni,” she said. “Back to handicap conditions today I thought she would be hard to beat and she won well.” Fromelles had finished sixth in the Listed Manawatu Breeders’ Stakes and was then fourth in the Hastings feature.
Trained by John Sargent, the mare is a daughter of Unearthed who won twice and was placed in the Gr 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas. “She’s not a big mare and the cut in the track helped,” stable representative Hayden Allen said. “She always goes honest races and she’s deserved black type.”
