Further stakes success for Ardrossan

Ardrossan doubled his black-type tally from just a handful of representatives when his daughter Loch Katrine produced a gallant performance this afternoon to claim the Listed Champagne S. at Pukekohe.
Waikato Stud’s exciting young stallion has only had nine runners to the races and his son Codigo struck first when he won the Listed Wellesley S. at Trentham and a filly has now done him proud.
The Daniel Miller-trained two-year-old Loch Katrine had placed in both of her previous appearances before she stepped up to 1600 metres on a deep and testing track.
“It was a really gutsy effort and I had been happy with her going into the race,” Miller said.
“She had trialled well on wet tracks as well so it’s all ahead of her. To break her maiden in a stakes races is a bonus.”
Loch Katrine settled midfield off the fence before improving wide across the top of she finished determinedly in the run home for rider Michael McNab to open her account.
“She got through the track okay and I tried to keep her to the fresher ground and she was really tough in the straight,” he said.
Loch Katrine is a daughter of the Listed Karaka Classic winner Cong’er, who is a half-sister to the G3 Thompson H. winner Bahira with their dam the G1 Championship S. winner Conifer Bay.
