Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas Target Ahead for Eclair Big Bang

South Australian trainer Philip Stokes has some big targets ahead for the ultra-impressive Savabeel 2YO, Eclair Big Bang.

On debut last Saturday, Eclair Big Bang made a huge impression on Morphettville racegoers, careering away in Race 4’s 1000m contest to win by 3.3 lengths under a hold.

“He’ll go to the paddock now but looking ahead, we’ll target the 3YO races in the Spring,” said Stokes yesterday of the promising C K Li-owned gelding.
“Namely, we’ll be looking at the Gr.1 Caulfield Guineas with him.”

Bred by Jason Abrahams, Eclair Big Bang combines the genetics of Savabeel – who himself was a debut winner over 1000m at two, with the well-related Singspiel mare, Ennerdale (GB).

He is the second foal from Ennerdale and represents the only example of the Savabeel/Singspiel cross to date.

Possessing a brand his trainer knew all too well, Eclair Big Bang made NZ$280,000 at the 2012 Premier Yearling Sale.

“The last horse I had with Waikato Stud’s brand on it was the Gr.1 winner Marju Snip,” said Stokes.
