Guyno Back To Winning Ways

Durable performer Guyno capped off a run of consistent form to post a long overdue win in today’s $300,000 Mornington Cup. The WS-bred and sold seven-year-old had been winless since January 2009 but had run numerous minor placings in between times and had weighed in at all six of his lead-up starts prior to his Melbourne breakthrough for Ascot trainer Lou Luciani.

A last-start runner-up in the Gr 2 Perth Cup, the son of O’Reilly has now won seven times with his career highlight coming in his three-year-old year. He was a popular home-state winner of the Gr 1 Western Australian Derby to add further top-flight honours to a prolific WS family.

He is a son of the winning Centaine mare River Century whose greatest claim to fame is her outstanding daughter Legs. The Chittick family-raced Pins mare won the Gr 1 Kelt Capital Stakes and New Zealand Oaks and the Eulogy Stakes at Gr 3 level. The family also boasts Gr 1 winner Sixty Seconds (Arrowfield Stud Stakes) and the dual Gr 2 winner Arletty (Villiers Stakes, Queen of the Turf Stakes).
