Guy’s trigger on target for rios

Rios
Matamata trainer Danica Guy enjoyed further success this afternoon with the stock of Rios. She prepared the WS stallion’s flagship performer Gaultier to claim last season’s Gr 1 Levin Classic as well as another winning son of the Hussonet stallion in Happy Place.
They are now furthering their careers in Hong Kong and Guy looks to have found a capable Rios replacement with Trigger. Bred and owned by WS, he hit the bull’s eye at Te Aroha to open his account after creditable efforts in his previous appearances.
Fourth on debut last season behind the current Gr 1 2000 Guineas favourite Scrutinize (Savabeel), he had weighed in at both starts this term. The gelding appreciated the step up to 1400 metres today to posted a dogged victory against the older horses in the hands of the Caulfield Cup-winning rider Opie Bosson.
A half-brother to the American Group performer Dahoud (Scaredee Cat), Trigger is out of a half-sister to the multiple Australian stakes winner Corregidor.
