I’m Jake leads Rivals A Merry Dance

I’m Jake carried the familiar WS silks to an impressive all-the-way victory in today’s Listed $A100,000 RM Ansett Classic at Mornington. The game son of Pins headed straight to front under rider Ben Melham and they dictated terms every inch of the way.

The freegoing duo put the pressure on 500 metres from home and, after slipping clear on the turn, held a strong gallop to post to win with ease. Bred and raced by Garry Chittick, I’m Jake won three races in New Zealand before he transferred to David Brideoake’s stable and he has won a further three races in Melbourne and also finished runner-up in the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes over 3200 metres at Flemington.

A half-brother to Gr 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup winner and New Zealand Derby and Bayer Classic placegetter Idol, I’m Jake is out of the Pompeii Court mare Venetian Court. It is also the family of the Gr 2 Wakefield Challenge Stakes winner Elton who also placed in the AJC Derby.

I’m Jake completed a good day in Australia for WS with both Sangster and Dowager Queen placing at the highest level for resident sire Savabeel. Sangster finished a brave third in the Spring Champion Stakes, a race his sire won in 2004 on route to beating the older horses in the Cox Plate, while the filly Dowager Queen hit the line strongly to run third in the Flight Stakes.
