Lopov Drawn Out for Gr.2 Perth Cup
28 December 2011
Savabeel 4YO Lopov has drawn barrier 20 for his Gr.2 Perth Cup (2400m) assault at Ascot on New Year’s Eve.
The WS-bred galloper was recently acquired off clients of Danny O’Brien by a Perth-based syndicat, headed by Perth Racing committeeman Peter Gangemi. The express early motivation for the purchase being the said Perth Cup.
Lopov had won five of his 22 starts for O’Brien, including successes over 2400 metres at Caulfield and 2500 metres at Morphettville earlier this year. He was a $25,000 Premier Sale buy in 2009 and is a brother to the Peter Moody-trained Brambles, who has won two of his three starts.
Prepared by Simon Miller, Lopov will shoulder 52kg and will be piloted by Peter Knuckey.
