Maggie Leaves No Excuses
1 August 2011

Hastings trainer John Bary is confident No Excuse Maggie will continue to progress and make her mark in the higher grades. The WS-bred and sold daughter of No Excuse Needed certainly looked a mare for the future when she led all the way to down her Rating 90 opposition at Te Rapa on Saturday.
“I do rate her highly and it was a great ride by Sam (Spratt) as well,” Bary said. The grey left the gates smartly to take up the running and, after shooting clear on the turn, held a strong gallop to the post. “With the 54.5kg I thought we’d go to the front and let them come to us she would tough it out,” Bary said.
No Excuse Maggie has now won three of her 10 starts and is likely to make her next appearance on her home track. “There’s a Rating 90 over 2000 metres on the first day at Hawke’s Bay – I’ve always thought she was a pretty good mare,” Bary said.
The four-year-old is out of the O’Reilly mare Maggie O’Reilly and is a half-sister to the Savabeel filly Showing Off who was a recent winner on debut. The dam is from the outstanding WS family of Gr 1 winners Glamour Puss and Vision And Power and the quality stakes winners Arenti, Escadaire, Giorgio, Glam Slam, La Rose Noir, Rare Insight, Starman and Tootsie.
