Noverre’s daughters light up ring

A pair of first-crop representatives of Waikato Stud resident Noverre made a stunning impact at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The first of the fillies by the Group 1-winning son of Savabeel was Lot 932 and she had several serious suitors chasing her before trainer Michael Freedman and agent Michael Wallace landed the final blow at A$500,000.

She is out of the former quality performer Shopaholic, successful in the Gr.2 Angus Armanasco Stakes and the Gr.3 The Vanity.

All four of her foals to race have been successful and include multiple winners and Group performers Bargain and Shop Til I Drop.

Then came Lot 988 and the daughter of Noverre and Starvoia was knocked down for A$410,000 to the combined forces of trainer Paul Shailer, Magic Bloodstock and Julian Blaxland Bloodstock.

A three-quarter sister to Gr.1 Tarzino Trophy winner Skew Wiff, the filly’s dam was a stakes winner and a multiple black-type placegetter.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are hoping lightning will strike twice after beating off the opposition to secure a good-looking son of Savabeel.

The Randwick trainers went to A$325,000 to claim the colt, Lot 452, who is a brother to their million-dollar earner and G1 Australian Derby winner Major Beel.

They are sons of the unraced O’Reilly mare Gram who is a half-sister to a trio of stakes winners.

Gold Fever and Gold Rush were both successful in editions of the G2 Matamata Breeders’ Stakes while Calverite won the Listed Gimcrack Stakes and produced the G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile.

The first foal of Waikato Stud’s G1 Flight Stakes winner Never Been Kissed had widespread admirers with trainers John O’Shea and Tom Charlton and James Bester Bloodstock winning the battle.

They signed for the daughter of Maurice and Tivaci’s daughter for A$300,000.

The filly comes from a potent Waikato Stud family that features multiple Group 1 winner Probabeel and the dual top-flight winner Savvy Coup.

Ocean Emperor, Tootsie, Legless Veuve, Nereus and Bellaconte are also Group winners on the pedigree page.

On the opening day of the auction, the Waikato Stud’s Super Seth colt was a highly popular individual and was knocked down to Laming Racing for A$260,000.

Offered as Lot 133, he is the first foal of the winning Pins mare Alegre and a half-sister to stakes performer Alsonso.

Their dam is the former top galloper Soriarno, successful at Group 1 level in the Zabeel Classic and the Herbie Dyke Stakes.

It is also the family of the G1 New Zealand Derby winner Rocket Spade.
