Outstanding start at Ellerslie
Waikato Stud opened Auckland Cup day with a pair of their home-breds delivering a quinella in the Rating 65 sprint.
Spindle, with jockey Cameron Lammas in the farm’s colours, and Breezon fought out the finish.
For the winner Spindle, it was richly deserved as she had been denied a run when going well a week ago.
“She didn’t get a go at all last time and today she’s won like a good horse,” Lammas said.
“She’s lovely to ride and make’s my job easy.”
Trained by Stephen McKee, who also prepares the runner-up, Breezon is by Pins out of Under And Over.
The dam is a sister to the stakes winner Bird, dam of Stakes winners Flamingo and Preditor.
Spindle is raced by the stud with the Brent Cooper-managed Auckland Racing Club Winners Circle syndicate.
