Ocean Park - Haberdashery Filly
A daughter of resident sire Ocean Park to be offered by Waikato Stud at Karaka next year received a timely boost this afternoon. The filly (Lot 313) is a half-sister to the Gr 1 Levin Classic entry Sewreel, who opened her winning account for trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman at New Plymouth.
They are out of the Pins mare Haberdashery, whose four foals to race are all now winners. She is a half-sister to the Gr 1 Queensland Derby winner and Gr 1 Mackinnon Stakes placegetter Lachlan River.
A three-year-old by Savabeel, Sewreel has quickly started to repay her $42,000 Karaka purchase. A debut fourth at Rotorua last month, she was successful at the Pukekura Raceway over 1400 metres in the hands of Opie Bosson.
The late O’Reilly was also represented by an exciting prospect at the meeting following the first-up victory of Mongolian Empire. The colt is already down to $14 in the early market for the Gr 1 New Zealand Derby and is at $18 for the Gr.1 Levin Classic.
