Pins 3yo stretches unbeaten run

Savabeel Youngster Coasts Home

He’s young and wayward but Savabeel’s juvenile son Sangster has talent to burn as he showed with a sparkling debut performance at Hawera. The two-year-old made light of the trying underfoot conditions to waltz home by six and a-half lengths.

However, the victory wasn’t without incident for rider Lisa Allpress who was given a scare close to home by her inexperienced partner. Sangster had shot well clear into the straight and won by a wide margin despite veering sharply to the outside rail close to home.

A $19,000 Ready to Run Sale purchase by Cambridge trainer Trent Busuttin, Sangster claims an international pedigree as he is a son of the winning Irish-bred Spectrum mare Quinta Special. She is from the family of the dual American Gr 1 winner Both Ends Burning (Hollywood Invitational, Santa Anita Oak Tree Handicap).
