Savabeel 3YO hits high note at Caulfield
30 September 2013
Savabeel’s latest rising star Éclair Big Bang staked his claim for top-level honours with a resounding victory in yesterday’s Gr.3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude. The boom South Australian three-year-old won for the third time in just four starts to put his name firmly in the frame as a leading contender for the upcoming Gr 1 Caulfield Guineas.
“He’s a lovely type with plenty of scope,” trainer Phillip Stokes said. “We’ve brought him along slowly, his fitness is just getting there and he still has to learn to relax a bit. The two weeks leading into the Guineas will be better than the three weeks leading into this. Everything is going to plan. I think he is still a prep away to be honest but we won’t get ahead of ourselves, the Guineas is the goal this time.”
Under a gem of a ride from Dom Torneur, Éclair Big Bang came with a well-timed finish to win at Caulfield. Raced by Macau Jockey Club chief executive Thomas Li and a $280,000 Karaka yearling purchase.
Bred by Jason Abrahams, Éclair Big Bang is out of the Singspiel mare Ennerdale from a family that has produced Group performers in Ireland, France, Italy, North America and South America.
Ennerdale will visit Savabeel this season.
