Savabeel colt new guineas favourite
8 October 2015
WS home-bred Scrutinize is now the pre-post favourite for the Gr 1 Sothys NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton. The Savabeel colt’s odds were trimmed from $8 to $5 for the November 7 classic at Riccarton following his effort at Hastings this afternoon.
The impressive winner of his first two starts, he finished powerfully from the back of the field to finish runner-up in the Gr 2 Sacred Falls Hawke’s Bay Guineas. “He’s a lovely colt and we think he’s pretty special,” said Stephen Autridge, who trains the thee-year-old with Jamie Richards.
Scrutinize was a $200,000 purchase out of WS’s 2014 Premier Sale line-up by Te Akau principal David Ellis. The handsome colt is a son of the stud’s dual Group One winner Legs (NZ Oaks, Kelt Capital Stakes), who is also the dam of the winning O’Reilly pair of Wolfwhistle (Listed Spring Classic) and Lego.
