Savabeel mare stars at Sale

Savabeel

With four placings from as many appearances this preparation, Bioluminescence was overdue to go
one better.

And the Waikato Stud-bred and raced daughter of Champion Sire Savabeel duly gained her first
major reward this afternoon at Sale where she enjoyed a cosy run to win by 0.5l over 1419 metres.
Bioluminescence is trained at Flemington by Simon Zahra and was ridden to victory by Blaike
McDougall, who had the filly close to the pace on the fence before angling into the clear soon after
straightening and rounded off strongly.

“She deserved that, she’s been a model of consistency. Full credit to Simon and his team as she had
been seven weeks between runs and they kept her up to the mark,” McDougall said.

“This mare is brilliant out of the gates and we got cover and she finished it off to win with a bit of
authority.”

She led home a Savabeel quinella for Waikato Stud with the farm-bred Booboo Boogie, a $280,000
Karaka purchase trained by Danny O’Brien, a sound second. She worked hard early to lead and
fought on gallantly in the run home.

A four-year-old sister to winners and stakes placegetters Relucent and Lucetta, Bioluminescence
boasts an impressive Group 1 pedigree and is the last foal of the late Pins mare Bright.

She is a half-sister to Savabeel’s Group 1-winning siblings Diademe and Embellish and also the family of former Champion New Zealand sprinter and two-time elite level winner Sacred Star.
