Savabeel Mare Tops In Gr 2
12 December 2011
Cambridge trainer Murray Baker is confident his much-improved mare Lady Kipling can continue her form over more ground. The four-year-old successfully stepped up to Gr 2 company at Te Rapa on Saturrday when she claimed the Cal Isuzu Stakes.
“She raced today like she can get 2000 metres and while she’s out of a short-course mare she’s by Savabeel and they are winning everything,” he said. Placed in last season’s Gr 1 Levin Classic, the four-year-old has won four times this season and pleasantly surprised Baker with her Te Rapa effort.
“I thought she was more of a handicap horse but she’s certainly improved this year,” he said. “We’ve ridden her up on the pace and that’s helped.”
A half-sister to the stakes-performed Lady Chapel, Lady Kipling is out of the Al Akbar mare Akela who won six times up to 1400 metres. She is a grand-daughter of the Gr 3 Eulogy Stakes winner Sylvaner.
